Biography

Alfred, 1st Baron Tennyson (1809-1892), poet, was born at Somersby, Lincolnshire, on 6 August 1809, son of the Revd Dr George Clayton Tennyson, rector of Somersby. He was educated mainly by his father, before entering Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1828. His many published poetic works include The princess (1847). He was made poet laureate in 1850. Lord Tennyson died on 6 October 1892, and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
