Biography

William Henry Hatchard Elliott was born on 15 November 1882 at St Mark's Vicarage, Ford, Devonport, son of the Revd Thomas Henry Elliott. He was educated at Plymouth School and Mannamead College, 1895-1901, before entering Christ's College, Cambridge, in 1901 (B.A., 1904; M.A., 1908). He was ordained deacon in 1906, and priest in 1907. Elliott was curate of Emmanuel, Camberwell, 1906-1907, and public preacher for the diocese of Southwark, 1907-1909. He was the first head of the College Working Boys' Home in Camberwell, 1904-1909, and the head of Cambridge House, Camberwell, 1909-1912.
