Biography

Sir William Pole, 4th Baronet (1678-1741), of Shute, was the son of Sir John Pole. He attended New College, Oxford, before serving as the member of parliament for Newport, 1701-1702 and 1708-1710; Camelford, 1704-1708; Devon, 1710-1712; Bossiney, 1713-1715; and Honiton, 1716-1727 and 1731-1734. He became master of the royal household in 1713. Pole died on 31 December 1741.

Scope and Contents

Statement of the accounts of the estate of Sir William Pole, written in various hands, 185 folios. There are indexes on fos 114-117. Attached to fo. 1 is a letter from W.H.H. Rogers to S.G. Perceval, 25 February 1888. Inside the front cover is the bookplate of Sektor Library, with the arms of Davidson of Curriehill, Co. Midlothian, and the writing 'Presented to the British Museum by Spencer George Perceval'. Fos 1v, 30-50, 62, 63, 70, 97-100 and 118-185 are blank.
