In shorthand, 155 folios: (fo. 1) 'John Barrow Holker in Cartmel 1819'; (fo. 3) drawing of a woman, bareheaded, seated on an upturned basket, perusing a book, with a church, hills and a tree in the background, and a border of hops; (fo. 4) text. On a fly-leaf: 'John Barrow Holker Cartmel'. On a label affixed inside the front cover: 'John Barrow, Hole of Ellel, Holker'.
