Biography

Terrot Reaveley Glover was a classical scholar and historian. Terrot Reaveley Glover was born in Bristol, the son of a prominent Baptist minister. He entered St. John's College, Cambridge in 1888, gained first classes in both parts of the classical tripos, and in 1892 was elected to a fellowship. From 1896 to 1901 he was Professor of Latin at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, returning to St. John's as a teaching fellow in the latter year [1]. He became University Lecturer in Ancient History in 1911, and Public Orator in 1920, retiring from both posts in 1939. He produced a steady stream of books and essays on classical history and literature, and on religious themes, the latter arising from his deeply-held Christian beliefs and his loyalty to the Baptist church.
