Biography
Charles Daubeny (1745-1827), Archdeacon of Sarum and theologian, was baptized on 16 August 1745 in Bristol. He was educated at a private school at Philip's Norton, Somerset, and from 1760 to 1762 at Winchester College, where despite a serious illness he became head boy. He matriculated from Oriel College, Oxford, on 17 December 1762 and gained an exhibition at New College, Oxford, in 1763, where he obtained a fellowship in 1774 after taking holy orders. He was awarded the degree of BCL in 1773, and in 1822 obtained a DCL by a degree of the Oxford convocation. In 1773, he was ordained deacon by Dr Robert Lowth, bishop of Oxford, and priest the following week by Bishop Richard Terrick of London. Daubeny vacated his New College fellowship in 1776, when he was offered the college living of North Bradley, Wiltshire. In 1784 he was appointed by Bishop Shute Barrington to the prebend of Minor Paris in Salisbury Cathedral, and in 1804 he was appointed archdeacon of Salisbury. Daubeny died on 10 July 1827.
