Biography

Alexander Joseph Finberg (1866-1939), art critic and historian, was born at 20 Robinson Road, Bethnal Green, London, on 23 April 1866. He was educated at the City of London College and at King's College, London, and studied painting in Paris. He worked as an illustrator for The Graphic and the Illustrated London News, and became art critic for several papers, including the Manchester Guardian and the Saturday Review. He died at his home, 2 Scarth Road, Barnes Common, on 15 March 1939.
