Biography

David Samuel Margoliouth (1858-1940), classical scholar and orientalist, was born in London on 17 October 1858. In 1877 Margoliouth went up to New College, Oxford, with a scholarship. Within a year after his finals Margoliouth was elected to a New College fellowship. He was appointed to the Laudian chair of Arabic at Oxford in 1887. He died in the Middlesex Hospital on 22 March 1940.
