Biography

Andrew White Tuer (1838-1900), printer, publisher and author, was born in Sunderland on 24 December 1838. About 1862 Tuer set up the company of Field and Tuer, which specialized in producing books of high quality 'ornamental and ancient' (Literature) printing and typography. From about 1870 Tuer had been a regular correspondent to The Times, The Athenaeum, and Notes and Queries. Two of his most famous books were Bartolozzi and his Works (1882) and History of the Horn Book (1896). Tuer died on 24 February 1900 at his home, 18 Campden Hill Square, London.
