Biography

Arthur Jeremy Hilton was born in 1945 and studied English at Christ’s College, Cambridge (BA 1966, MA 1970). While an undergraduate he co-edited the magazine ‘Forward’ (published by Cambridge University Labour Club). He afterwards obtained a degree in Social Work, and was employed in various social work posts between 1972 and 1998. In the 1960s he was a contributor to The English Intelligencer, and his volumes of poetry include 'Trespasser in Grief' (1985), 'Shaow Engineering' (1991), 'Earth Bound' (2000), 'Slipstream' (2003) and 'Lighting Up Time: Selected Poems 1991-2004' (2006). He published and edited the poetry magazine 'Fire'.

The collection includes drafts and versions of poetry and prose by Hilton; notebooks, including juvenilia; papers relating to his time as an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge; general literary corrrespondence; and printed material.
