Biography

John Hope Welch was born in Southgate, London, in 1942, and read Modern Languages at Magdalene College, Cambridge (B.A. 1965). After training as a teacher in Southampton and teaching for a year in Lyon, he specialised as a teacher of English to school students recently arrived in Britain, working in this field for twenty-seven years. He founded The Many Press in 1975. Welch's collections of verse are 'Out walking' (London: Anvil, 1984); 'The eastern boroughs' (Exeter: Shearsman, 2004); and 'Collected poems' (Exeter: Shearsman, 2008).
