Printed act of Parliament granting the manor of Woodstock [Oxfordshire], together with Hardley, Wootton, Old-Woodstock, Hanborough, Stonesfield, Combe and Bladon, to the 1st Duke of Marlborough [earlier John Churchill] in return for his services to the Crown.

Includes: individual items given to Churchill, including papers relating to the 1st Duke of Marlborough [see also GBR/0014/WCHL 11]; family memorabilia; articles by Churchill; accounts; items relating to Churchill's funeral.

Comprising hand-drawn illustrations of "The Blenheim Campaign" (1704) and of Spain (c. 1704-1705), with a list of wars between England and France (from 1689-1815), notes about the Battle of Malaga (1704), and notes about Peterborough's [Charles Mordaunt, 3rd Earl of Peterborough and 1st Earl of Monmouth] battle campaigns (1705-1706) including the Battle of San Mateo and the Battle of Valencia.

The collection largely comprises research papers, particularly about Yugoslavia [now Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia] during the Second World War, 1950s-1990s. In addition, a small number of papers concern Deakin's work on "Marlborough: His Life and Times", mainly consisting of typed transcripts of letters and documents used in research, and on Churchill's history of the Second World War.
