Letter from WSC (Calcutta [India]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] discussing his success in the polo tournament; the popularity of [Lord] Curzon [later Lord Curzon of Kedleston] as Viceroy of India and [Mary] Lady Curzon's poor health; the magazine she hopes to publish and his disapproval of the concept of a "hearty production frothing with patriotism" and of the suggestion of "Anglo Saxon" as a title; the illness of Rudyard Kipling "a terrible loss to the English speaking world"....

Letter from WSC (In the train near Umballa, North West Provinces [India]) to "Jack" [John S Churchill] discussing his position as war correspondent with the Malakand Field Force and the likelihood that he will see active service and will be awarded a medal. He also gives his opinions on the violation of the "Pax Britannica" and the necessity for the British government to take revenge on the frontier tribes.

Acquired Papers: Letters from WSC to Lady Randolph Churchill and also John S Churchill and Reginald Barnes. The file contains letters written by WSC about his time in Bangalore with the 4th Hussars; his posting to the Malakand Field Force with Sir Bindon Blood and about his first literary endeavours ("Savrola", "The Scaffolding of Rhetoric" and "The Story of the Malakand Field Force"). The file also contains two letters from Sir Bindon Blood. All items are manuscript and signed unless otherwise described.

Letter from WSC (Meerut [India]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that he did not write articles in the Pioneer, but criticises the Indian bureaucracy for "jobbery" and the mismanagement of the Tirah campaign. He discusses ["The Story of the Malakand Field Force"], says that he has been disappointed on re-reading the manuscript and reports that his team was defeated in the polo tournament.
