Letter from "Jack" [John] S Churchill ([45 Rue des Missionnaires] Versailles [France]) to "Mama" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he discusses Lord Vernon's illness and says that Lord Vernon is "furious with Winston [WSC], who is a millionaire in India". He also mentions the names of other people he has met who include Lord Charles Beresford and asks her to visit him.

He comments that WSC "will always try and go one better", and that if he abuses the Sirdar [Sir Herbert Kitchener] he will "find himself in the wrong box". He also discusses an insurance policy.

Letter from Lady Randolph Churchill, 35a Great Cumberland Place, to WSC, on the war in India, and on the Christmas celebrations at Blenheim Palace, particularly the "theatricals they were putting on for charity, commenting that the "whole of Oxford may turn up, or any vulgarian from London who chooses to pay 10s to see the Churchills playing the fool.

Telegram from "Jack" [John S Churchill] (Edgware Road [London]) to Lady Randolph Churchill reporting that Oliver [Borthwick] has telegraphed that WSC has been captured by the Boers. He reassures her that WSC was not wounded but displayed "splendid" bravery.

Letter from [Lady Randolph Churchill] (Iwerne Minster House, Blandford [Dorset]) to "Jack" [John S Churchill] in which she says that she has received a letter from Colonel [John] Brabazon enclosing a letter from Sir Bindon Blood which praised WSC, commenting that "he was doing the work of 2 ordinary subalterns", and said that it was likely that WSC would be awarded the Victoria Cross or the DSO [Companion of the Distinguished Service Order].
