Ferrez, Marc, 1843 -1923 (photographer)

Biography

Marc Ferrez was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1843. He trained as a photographer with Franz Keller and worked as a photographer before joining the firm Leuzinger. In 1865 he opened his own studio. In the 1880s Ferrez had a studio at 88 R. de S. Jose, Rio de Janeiro, 'da Marinha Imperial e da Commissao Geologica'. The firm was still trading from Rua Sachet in 1922.

Ferrez won gold medals at the Exhibition of the Century in Philadelphia 1876 and at the World's Fair at St Louis 1904. In 1907 he opened the first picture house in Rio de Janeiro. He died in Rio de Janeiro in 1923 (Turner 1996, p.22).
