Biography

Zangaki was a commercial photographer active in Egypt in the 1880s and 1890s. Zangaki specialized in views of the Nile, the Pyramids and other antiquities, Cairo scenes and ethnic groups.

281 x 224 mm. Showing the landing place, jetty and buildings, with ships moored or at anchor at the left. Terre-Plein stands on an artificial island SE of Suez which was created during the construction of the canal and connected to Suez by a 50 feet wide stone pier. Photograph by Zangaki.

280 x 218 mm. A view looking along the canal with ships moored on the far bank, and a troopship steaming up the canal. The station is the cluster of bungalows, with a flagstaff, on the far bank-presumably military garrisons, or stopping-off places on the journey (descendants of Waghorn’s stations on the overland route from Cairo to Suez?)
