This series comprises four folders of letters sent by Lady Clive to her brother Nevil Maskelyne, her niece Margaret Maskelyne, and to other family members. The letters span 55 years, from 1762 until Lady Clive's death on 28 Dec. 1817. Many mention astronomy, including sightings of the great comet of 1811.
The series also includes a set of copies of family letters (including some written by Nevil Maskelyne), and notes by Theresa Story-Maskelyne on the letters of Lady Clive.

Thanking him for his assistance regarding his son, William Dawes and assuring him that the books and instruments would be brought back from Sydney on HMS Gorgon, which had just departed from Spithead with supplies. Dawes also discusses the shortage of food and clothing at the settlement, and recounts William's list of rations at the settlement, noting how they were cut after the loss of the Sirius.

Letter regarding eclipses of Jupiter's satellites observed at Bombay.

Letter regarding the circumstances of the eclipse of 25 July 1767 mentioned in the previous letter at [RGO 4/187: 2].

The letter requests Nevil Maskelyne to communicate to Captain Mudge anything he should discover in a paper, relative to a Trigonometrical Survey, that requires explanation. Also contain a series of equations by Maskelyne.

Covering letter sent with two enclosed papers (non-extant) requesting Maskelyne to return the papers with any remarks he may be pleased to make. The letter is covered with Maskelyne's calculations and sketches.

The letter is primarily concerned with the progress of 'A Mathematical and Philosophical Dictionary' upon which Charles Hutton was working. Various calculations and equations cover the reverse page of the letter.

The letter is concerned with Simpson's method for computing series.

The letter conveys observations of a solar eclipse made by Ali-Beik Abd-Allah at Tangier on 16 August 1803.

Concerning his discovery 'that it is not 12 o'clock at one identical time in all latitudes on one meridian' and his invention of a method for using a telescope to determine longitude at sea. Wadkin also points out his poor financial situation and requests a reward. The letter was marked as undeserving of the Board's attention by Nevil Maskelyne.

On the reverse of the letter is a note in Maskelyne's hand on the construction of an optical instrument.

The letter provides answers to enquiries raised by Maskelyne concerning a six-foot telescope.

The letter contains the specifications of an object-glass for a six-foot telescope, with various dimensions of convex and concave lenses. Some notes and computations have been added in Maskelyne's hand.

The letter provides measurements for the thickness of the glass in a six-foot object glass and includes a diagram.

The letter gives notice of a visitation of the Royal Society to the Royal Observatory on 10 July 1801. Various computations are scribbled on the reverse of the letter.
