Covering letter sent with two enclosed papers (non-extant) requesting Maskelyne to return the papers with any remarks he may be pleased to make. The letter is covered with Maskelyne's calculations and sketches.
The letter is primarily concerned with the progress of 'A Mathematical and Philosophical Dictionary' upon which Charles Hutton was working. Various calculations and equations cover the reverse page of the letter.
The letter is concerned with Simpson's method for computing series.
The letter refers to trouble Maskelyne has had with a watch belonging to a friend of Merdbey. On the reverse are various equations in Maskelyne's hand.
