Scope and Contents 99 x 75 mm. A view showing the wooden stagings of the fish traps:'Towards the end of the low-water season, small tree-trunks and great supporting posts are fixed upright amongst the rocks and broken water at the falls ... Upon these are built elaborate stagings, lashed with forest creeper ropes, and stretching far out across the tumbling rapids from both banks. Six or ten feet beneath the staging, according to the height of the water, are suspended conical or bell-shaped basket...

It had despatched him on a prospecting mission to locate forests rich in the Funtumia elastica tree, which was used for the production of rubber. The medical expedition was a response to the spreading Uganda Sleeping Sickness epidemic of 1901. Its aim was to elucidate the role of the Filaria perstans parasite in causing the disease.
