Biography

S. L. Cassar established a photographic business in Malta circa 1890. He had a studio at 29 Sda San Giovanni, Valetta during the 1890s, referring to himself as 'Artistic Photographer', (Stephens 2007, email referring to a photograph of George Henry Lewis which was taken by 'S.L. Cassar, Artistic Photographer, 29 Sda San Giovanni (Opposite St John's Church), Valetta') during the 1890s), and in 1915 he had a studio at 31 Strada San Giovani, Valletta. In 1915 he was the only photographer in Malta undertaking cinematographic work (Macmillan 1915, p.377).
