A bronze medal 77 mm in diameter showing Samuel de Champlain (1567-1635) stepping ashore from a small boat, holding aloft a sword in his right hand and a hat in his left. Immediately before him lie two pots on rocky, infertile ground. On either side are a crown and a dolphin, and monograms of Henri IV and Edward VII. The medal bears the inscription, ‘CENTENAIRE . DE .
