Lobo, Alfred, fl. 1900-1939 (photographer)

 Person

Dates

  • Existence: fl. 1900 - 1939

Biography

Alfred Lobo entered Government service in Entebbe, Uganda, in 1908. According to Macmillian, he started a commercial photographic business in Kampala in 1922 (1930, p.269). However, Lobo appears to have been a practising photographer in the early 1900s. His photographs appear in Playne's 'East Africa' (1907) and several of the photographs in the RCS collection date pre-1910. Alfred Lobo may have been the same person mentioned as A. Lobo, Locomotive Department, Uganda Railway, Nairobi, listed in 'The red book of East Africa' (1904).

Playne, Somerset (1908-9) 'East Africa (British): its history, people, commerce, industries, and resources'. [London]. [Contains photographs by Lobo].
