Biography

Hugh Fraser Macmillan was born on the 4th June 1869. He was a Kew gardener in 1893. By 1895 he was working at the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). He was curator of the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens from 1895 to 1925. His photographs mainly consist of plant specimens and were used to illustrate his published work. Macmillan died on the 19th November 1948.

Numerous works on tropical agriculture, including the standard: Macmillan, H.F. (1910), 'A handbook of tropical gardening and planting with special reference to Ceylon'. Colombo, Ceylon : Cave.
