Biography

Francis R. Elwell was a commercial photographer. He initially worked in Weston-Super-Mare, but moved to London in the 1870s. From 1875 to 1881 he was based at 44 Regent Street, London. In 1882 his studio moved to 137 Regent Street and from 1883 to 1893 it was at 122 Regent Street. Through his wife's family, Elwell was linked to the Scottish photographer John Moffat (Pritchard 1994, p.58).
