Biography
Alice Lindsell matriculated at Newnham College, Cambridge in 1903, reading Classics. Upon graduation, she was appointed secretary to the Warden of Alexandra Hall, Aberystwyth University College (1906-1908), Principal of College Hall, Byng Place of the University of London (1909-1913), returning to Newnham in 1913 as secretary to the Principal, Katherine Stephen. At Newnham during 1914-1916, she supervised Classics, was appointed Garden Steward and organised students for land work to produce food as part of the war effort. She left to beome an organsier of the Women's Land Army (1916-1917) and was appointed an Area Controller of the Women's Army Auxillary Corps (1917-1919). She was Warden of Bedford College House from 1919 until her retirement in1939. Alongside her professional career, she also continued her scholarly interest in botanical specimens of the ancient Greek world and their modern-day descendents, publishing on this subject.
