Biography

Evelyn Ada Maud Rice was born in 1865 in France, daughter of Captain Arthur Robert Willoughby-Wade of the Seaforth Highlanders and niece of the Chinese scholar and diplomat Sir T. F. Wade. She married the mathematician and philosopher Alfred North Whitehead (1861-1947) on 16 December 1890. They had a daughter, Jessie, and two sons, North and Eric. Evelyn died in 1961.
