Biography

Mary Campbell Lill was born on 14 September 1853, daughter of Alfred Hudson Shadwell (d.1884), a solicitor, and his wife, Charlotte Mary Hillersdon. On 13 June 1878 Mary Shadwell married the civil engineer, Eliott Scarlett Currey (b.1836), son of Colonel Sir Edmund Currey and the Honorable Louise Lawrence Scarlett. They had two children, Edmond and Vera, both born in 1880.

Scope and Contents From the Series:

Contains letters sent principally to Ida Darwin but also includes some letters sent to Horace Darwin. The bulk of the series consists of letters sent to Ida from her husband Horace, and from their three children Erasmus, Ruth and in particular Nora.
