Towers, John Robert, c 1888-1979 (clergyman)

Biography

John Towers was educated at St Aidan's College, Birkenhead, 1906-9; Durham University, Licentiate of Theology, 1909; and Manchester University, MA, 1934, DD, 1935. He was ordained deacon, 1909, and priest, 1910. He served as a curate at Hoylake, 1909-12; Holy Trinity, Stirling, 1912-13; St Andrew, Glasgow, 1913-16; Buxton, 1916-19; and Gedling, 1919-22. He was appointed priest-in-charge of Chinley with Buxworth, 1922-43, and rector of Aston on Trent, 1943-56. He was interested in Egyptology, particularly the Amarna period. He died in Christchurch, Hampshire, ca. 1979.
