Documents in Chinese concerning relations between China and Japan, particularly with regard to the issue of the island of Liu-ch'iu, including copies of treaties; name cards of officials; and correspondence between Ho Ju-chang, the Chinese minister in Japan, and Terajima (Terashima Munenori), the Japanese Foreign Minister.

An undated photograph of Ho-u-chang [Ho Ju-chang] [Tokyo], mounted on a card which includes on the reverse the printed seal of Maruki Riyo (in Japanese) and a presentation inscription from Ho to Parkes (in French). The photograph is in an envelope addressed (in French) to Parkes in Tokyo in the same hand as the inscription, and which includes the printed seal of the Chinese Legation.
