Michael Alexander Robert Young-Herries joined Matheson & Co. Ltd in 1948 and transferred to the Book Office of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd at Hong Kong the following year. He was a Director of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd, 1959-1984, and Jardine Matheson Holdings Ltd, 1984-1988.

Barton and M.A.R. Herries, 16 February-6 September 1962. The semi-official N.C. correspondence concerns Jardine Waugh Ltd's proposed involvement with the Nippon Coal Mining Co. Ltd in the mining of coal in Sarawak for consumption in Japan. The ring-binder is labelled 'File I'.
