Biography

Franklin Richardson Kendall was employed overseas by the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company, beginning at Bombay (1858), before transferring to Singapore (1859), Hong Kong (1863), Calcutta (1864), Bombay (1864) and Melbourne (1865). He returned to London in 1881, where he worked at the company's Head Office until his retirement in 1906.

Scope and Contents

The volume is a compilation produced by the P. & O. Steam Navigation Co. of extracts from letters sent by F.R. Kendall, 17 February 1858-7 July 1865, 89 pages. The volume also includes an introduction; a history of the development of P. & O., 1815-1869; illustrations; notes on vessels mentioned in the letters; and extracts from contemporary documents.
