Volume inscribed on front flyleaf 'Receipt book. Charlotte Gage. 1780', probably kept by Charlotte Gage (d.1790), first wife of Sir Thomas Gage (1752-98), 6th Baronet (succeeded 1796). Mostly cookery recipes, occasional medical and cosmetic recipes, and household tips. Loose: pen and pencil sketch of mountainous view (Italy?); piece cut from a print; pencil and wash profile of a lady; humorous song, 'Four and twenty fiddlers all in a row'; recipe 'To make spruce beer'
