Biography

Mea Allan was the first female war correspondent to be accredited by the British Military and first female news editor on Fleet street. Her novel 'A Change of Heart', written in 1943, is an alternative history about the end of the Second World War. She later researched and wrote about the botanists William Hooker and Joseph Dalton Hooker after being awarded a grant from the Leverhulme trust in 1967. Mea Allan wrote books on plants, and histories people and their plants and gardens (Charles Darwin, William Robertson, the Rochfords). She also wrote a biography of William Gifford Palgrave, Arabic scholar.
