Biography

Violet Rutter (1897-1987), artist and dramatist. [From bookseller's catalogue: Minnie Violet Rutter, trained as an artist but spent much time working in the theatre for which she wrote one-act plays, some of which were published. Worked for many years as a designer for the Royal College of Arms & for the Whitbread brewery for whom she designed heraldic inn signs. During the war worked for the war office on designs for the Mulberry artificial harbour.]
