Letter from an elderly fan thanking Sassoon for his Sherston books, which she had enjoyed, wondering if her son who served in France from 1917-1919 had had similar experiences: 'your book somehow makes me feel as if a man could go through it all and come out clean ...You saw the sunsets, the birds and the flowers as well as the horrors'.
