Biography
John Peter Scupham was born in Liverpool on 24 February 1933, the son of John Scupham (1904-1990), Controller of Educational Broadcasting at the B.B.C., and his wife Dorothy Lacey, née Clark (1904-1987). He was educated at The Perse School and Emmanuel College, Cambridge (B.A. 1957). He performed National Service in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, 1952-1954, and was recalled during the Suez Crisis of 1956. He was later Head of English at St Christopher School, Letchworth, and proprietor of the Mandeville Press in Hitchin. He is the author of numerous books of poetry, including a Collected Poems (Manchester: Carcanet Press, 2002).
