Biography

After a career as a plant geneticist in Trinidad, India, Sudan and Uganda, Sir Joseph Hutchinson returned to Cambridge in 1957 as Drapers' Professor of Agriculture and fellow of St. John's College (of which he had been an undergraduate). He held the Drapers' chair until the School of Agriculture was closed in 1969, and continued to live in Cambridge until his death in 1988.
