Biography

John Le Neve (1679-1741), antiquary, was born in London in 1679. He attended Eton College nd Trinity College, Cambridge, though he left without taking his degree. Encouraged by a relative, Peter Le Neve, and, later, by White Kennett, he took up historical research. Le Neve produced biographies of many eminent people and his greatest work, Fasti ecclesiae Anglicanae, which appeared in 1716, contained 11,051 entries on England's major ecclesiastical dignitaries down to the year 1715. He died in, or shortly before, 1741.
