Biography
Sir Alister Clavering Hardy (1896-1985), marine biologist, was Professor of Zoology, Hull University, 1928-42, Professor of Natural History, Aberdeen, 1942-46, and Linacre Professor of Zoology, Oxford, 1946-61. He founded the Religious Experience Research Centre at Manchester College Oxford in 1969. He joined SPR in 1949, and was President, 1965-69; Count Michael Perovsky-Petrovo-Solovovo (1868-1954), Russian-born psychical researcher, joined SPR in 1890 and participated in the Hallucinations Census, and later investigated mediums including Eusapia Palladino; Gardner Murphy (1895-1979), American psychologist and parapsychologist, joined SPR in 1927 and was President in 1949; Kathleen Agnes Robson Gay (1890-1969), parapsychologist, joined the SPR Council in 1950, and chaired the Sir Oliver Lodge Posthumous Test Committee.
