Biography

Born Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, in 1881. Educated at Hillhead Academy and University of Glasgow. Joined the Indian Educational Service in 1908, served mainly as Inspector of Schools. He wrote on Anglo-Indian literature and served on the Council of the Asiatic Society of Bengal. He drowned in the River Hooghly on 21 Feb. 1924.
