Biography

General Sir Henry Lynedoch Gardiner (1820-1897) was a son of General Sir Robert Gardiner. He was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and entered the Royal Artillery in 1837. He went to Canada the same year and was involoved in the Canadian rebellion in the year following. He was raised to the rank of Major during the Indian mutiny and held that of Assistant Adjutant General from 1862 to 1867. In 1861 he was on the Royal Commission on Defense of Canada as a Lieutenant Colonel.
