Biography
Ralph Manheim (1907-92), American translator of German and French literature, translated Jean Rouaud's novel Les champs d'honneur (Paris, 1990), which won the Prix Goncourt in 1990, as Fields of glory (London, 1992) with a glossary. In the course of preparation of his translation, Manheim consulted French translator Pierre Andler on many points. Manheim's and Andler's papers on Fields of glory have been merged into a single collection, Andler's having been passed to Julia Manheim after her husband's death.
