Biography

Edward Hailstone (1818-90), of Walton Hall, Wakefield, Yorks, antiquary and botanist, who left his collection of Yorkshire books and Manuscripts to the Dean & Chapter Library, York. He married Sarah Ferrard.

Scope and Contents

[F1] contains legal papers, especially concerning his separation from his wife Sarah, and her family affairs; [F2] has correspondence and papers about Hailstone's participation in national and international exhibitions, 1865-67; [F 3 - F4] have correspondence relating to his part in the Great Exhibition of 1851, including an account of a public meeting in Bradford, signed at several points by Titus Salt. [F5] relates to his death, and probate of his will.
