Biography

William Crotch (1775-1847), composer, organist, theorist; Professor of Music at Oxford 1797-1847; first Principal of Royal Academy of Music 1822-32; wrote the oratorio 'Palestine' (words by Reginald Heber), first performed in 1812, in which 'Lo, star led chiefs' is a chorus.
