Biography

Michael Holroyd was born in 1935; the subjects of his biographies include Hugh Kingsmill, Lytton Strachey and George Bernard Shaw. Holroyd first encountered Gerhardie when preparing his biography of Kingsmill; he later edited and wrote prefaces for the 'Revised definitive edition' of Gerhardie's works, and with Robert Skidelsky edited and introduced the posthumous publication of 'God's Fifth Column'.
