Biography

Simon Mayr (1763-1845), German composer, worked in Italy as a composer mostly of opera. In 1802, he was appointed 'maestro di capella' at Bergamo, and in 1805 director of Bergamo Cathedral choir school. His opera "L'Elisa" was first performed in Venice in 1804 and in Florence in 1810.
