Biography

Geoffrey William Hugo Lampe (1912-80), theologian, was Chaplain and Fellow of St. John's College, Oxford, 1945-53; Edward Cadbury Professor of Theology, Birmingham University, 1953-59; Ely Professor of Divinity, Cambridge, 1959-70; and Regius Professor of Divinity, Cambridge, 1970-79. He advocated the ordination of women in the Church of England and ecumenical co-operation between Churches, and was a leading figure in Anglo-Scandinavian theological conferences. He delivered the Bampton Lectures, God as Spirit, at Oxford in 1975-76.
