Biography

The Altham family was from Mark Hall, near Harlow, Essex. The collection focuses on James Altham (1614-75), knighted in 1661; his mother Lady (Joane) Altham (1591-c.1660); his wife Alice Altham; and his brothers John Altham (1616-58), a lawyer; Leventhorpe Altham (1618-81); Edward Altham (b.1620); and Emmanuel Altham. Leventhorpe Altham was the successor to his brother at Mark Hall.
