Scope and Contents Observations and related papers by James Inman. Inman joined HMS Investigator as the astronomer in June 1803 at New South Wales, after the departure of astronomer John Crosley. When the officers and men of the Investigator were transferred to HMS Porpoise, Inman remained at Port Jackson with his instruments, later joining the ship Rolla, commanded by Mr Cumming, which participated in rescuing the men of the Porpoise and Cato ships lost at Wreck Reefs.
