Biography

The China trading company Magniac & Co. was formed in 1825. Its precursors included Beale & Co. and Charles, Magniac & Co. The company was wound up on 30 June 1832, to be succeeded by Jardine, Matheson & Co., formed 1 July 1832.

Scope and Contents A wide range of accounts and other papers relating to Jardine, Matheson and Co., companies it owned or managed, and extraneous institutions.Much of the series is concerned with maritime trading, relating primarily to the consignment of goods, notably opium, and the range of expenses incurred by their transportation.
